Not many people know that when the High Court of Australia was hearing Cardinal Pell's appeal, there was a small crowd of people, posed as Pell's "supporters".
You see, the Catholic Church is a very big organization, and George Pell was the most senior people got into legal trouble of raping kids. So, Vatican must have taken this seriously, and I will not be surprised if they just fly a small team from Italy to here and stand outside the court.
Except, at that time, it was in the mid of covid, and Italy was locked down, international travels all came to a stop, so let's find some "local Australians" to do the job. Hence, this is awkward moment you see, bunch of people with Asian appearance, who barely speak any English, holding the placard that doesn't exactly mean anything, standing outside the high court for a photo op that the organizers say supporting Pell.
I guess they just cannot find any "white Aussie" who indeed grow up here to speak for church anymore.
Two years ago, I had a casual conversation with my workmate and he told me that now most Catholics in Australia are from Asia, just like me. I was surprised about why the catholic church would bust their heads introducing immigrants to this country like there is no tomorrow: this is just not the typical behavior of the conservatives. Now I, sort of, know the answer, after seeing this photo recently.
It is interesting that neither the left nor right media spent much time talking about Pell's "supporters". Perhaps because of the humiliation: Left were humiliated that a minority group of the society end up supporting a pedophile ring leader, the Right were humiliated that they cannot find bunch of Aussies they consider "truly local" to support their cardinal. It actually took a while for me to dig this up and find these photos.
I don't think this is the fault of the immigrants, they certainly have no idea what they were doing. I had Deja Vu on some of these faces, I think I have seen them before, in many other highly political protests, one of them being supporting some Tibetan monk who had been sucking the tongues of young boys in public.
Many of these "supporters" arrived in Australia by humanitarian Visa, they say they were politically persecuted, some say they were catholic, some say they were other religious groups. They cannot really find a proper job here, so they go to protests or rallies, get paid in cash so they continue to collect Centrelink. The Australian Government let them in, probably not out of humanitarian concerns at all, but because they are really useful to the government, sometimes against its own people.
We had always been educating people the harm of mass immigration, in this case, it can totally pervert the society's recognition of what is right or wrong. Once again, it is not the fault of the immigrants, even those who were paid to go to these rallies, they have no idea what they were doing. It is the people in power behind this must be held responsible.
