When engaging political activities, we want to make sure that we are not the "pawn" of someone else or something else. That is why we need to be united, but at the same time be independent.
However, Australia is falling into something even worse, it has become the "chessboard" of the recent conflict in the mid-east, I mean between the faction that speaks Arabic and Hebrew.
It is such a sensitive issue that I dare even not mention the country name that is considered "promised land" by one side, and "land between that river and that sea" by another side. If I ever mention it, my online appearance will be endangered.
No doubt it is a grave issue, we all understand that massive civilian casualties had occurred, and people do have reason to believe it was intentional. But we have to accept, it is a matter of some other nations, not Australia.
I have been seeing activists, students, all walks of life hitting the street, setting up camps, or even occupying some buildings... I will not decline that I feel envy about the energy those young people have, envy that they are not using it to address the problems of this country. Instead, they risk themselves being accused of either "glorifying terrorism" or "supporting genocide", while not aiming at any meaningful gains.
If they want their fight to be meaningful, they should have travelled to the mid-east and join whatever the faction of their preference.
While since they are not willing to endure the hash mid-east, they should now care more about the people of this country who provided them all the comfort they are enjoying now, while among the people, around 10% are the victims of the child sexual abuse caused by the church, the schools, the government, the media establishment... A vast majority of them had never obtained the justice they deserve. If those activists could have devoted 10% of their time in these matters, all the perpetrators would have fled the country in one year.
It is time to care about our people, rather than turning Australia into a chessboard for external conflicts. People who choose to participate in our local cause will not endure many controversies, compared to the foreseeable conflicts in the Europe, in the subcontinent, in the Mideast, in the peninsular, or even in the United States. It is not only the right move, it is also the smart move.
